First, we have looked around and found as much information as possible about the new deathknight class in the world of warrcraft.
Some of the basic information we have found, is that they are primarily a tanking class that can’t use a shield, but they do make up for this by having skills helps that help them hold agro and mitigate the damage.
One of the interesting things about the Deathknight class is that they are fulled by a rune system, which will be in place of the existing mana/rage/power bars. They appear they are going to be an offensive tank as their 3 skill tree’s all seem to have a big damage section in them.
The first Skill tree is “Blood” which is based around weapons armor and strikes. The second Skill tree is “Frost” which is based around crowd control and combos (damage again..) and the last skill tree is “unholy” which is attack spells and summons.
Three Official examples of skills are:-
* Blood Presence increases damage output by a percentage and restores a percentage of damage dealt as health.
* Frost Presence increases threat and lowers damage taken by a percentage.
* Unholy Presence increases attack speed and reduces the global cool down on death knight abilities.
So far so good, well it all goes does hill from here.
To use spells and abilities on the deathknight, you need to use “runes”, each rune as a cool down timer, so when you use it, you’ll have to wait until you can use your next one. Using runes will build up your Runic power bar, which is similar to a warriors rage bar, it also decreases over time when not used. There are some abilities that use this runic power bar, but when they do, they will consume all the power you have built up and damage will be based on that amount. There might be a serious issue unless they make the abilities based on the bar extremely powerful when fully powered.
Death knights will have some limited summoning ability, you can raise a corpse (even pc ones). but it’s apparently only for a short time. you can also raise a group of undead soldiers, but they are also only for a very short time. The best thing they can summon is the lvl 40 Deathcharger mount.
Now the worse bit of all, to Create a Death knight, you have to have an existing character OVER lvl 55, that’s not to bad right? well you can only have one death knight per realm (per account) and on pvp servers, they must be the same faction as your exsisting character. From what i can find, Deathknights will be capped at lvl 55, it was uncertain if that was on pvp only, or on all realms.
So there seems to be some huge cons about the death knight in the new expansion, only time will tell if they are as bad as they seem.
